A Relational Perspective With The Movie Stargate

In the movie Stargate, a gate is discovered allowing travel from one world to another.  While some differences exist in the cultures, the basic life support systems work the same in both the home and distant worlds.

When developing a quality management system (QMS), the goal should be to develop a business model to support effectiveness in your organization first and foremost, making sure the organization can thrive in its respective business world.  At the same time, the QMS needs to work well in the world of the organization's customers and the registrar used to obtain and maintain registration to ISO 9001:2000 (should the organization choose to do so).  When the quality management system operates in this manner, it is the "Stargate" between the organization's world (way of life) and the other worlds traveled (customers, registrar, etc.).

So what does this have to do with ISO-Speak?

In essence, our goal is to develop a universal translator for each of our customers.  This translator allows the organization to work with their business model (quality management system [QMS]) in a language unique to who it is (and user-friendly), and as well, provides the outside world with a translation of their model.  The outside entities can now enter into the organization's world and interact effectively.

The Quality Management System (QMS) should be the Stargate between your organization and
outside parties (like customers or the registrar) as it relates to ISO 9001:2000!
